Farmers seek help on irrigation problem

CANDABA – A group of farmers here has sought the assistance of the Provincial Government for the rehabilitation of the irrigation system in barangay Gulap and Sto. Rosario this town.

According to Jojo Paguinto, president of the corn growers’ cooperative and representative of the farmers, the said irrigation system along the portion of Sto. Rosario is no longer functional due to its poor condition.

He also claimed that should this irrigation system be rehabilitated, it would lead to a lesser farming expenses and could possibly increase the production of ‘palay’ during harvest season.

With this, Governor Lilia Pineda during the recently concluded farmers’ summit held in Lubao town, vowed to allocate P2-million for the repair and maintenance of Gulap-Sto. Rosario irrigation system.

The governor also claimed that the provincial government is planning to purchase four back hoes to address the loaming problem on silted canals that affect irrigation system in the entire province.
